Dojo - PROFILE
http://www.eatnoise.com/Dojo
Combining heavy metal influences and punk rock sensibilities, Dojo have been playing and rocking crowds since 2003. They have been compared to a wide range of bands from System Of A Down to Midnight Oil. Although the band, themselves, would say they sound like neither of those bands. They are a loud, heavy rock outfit with heavy riff based songs and dynamic live shows that just keep getting better.
The seeds of Dojo began back in 2003, when Jim and Steve got together to work on a bunch of songs Jim had written. They were soon joined by Damian on bass and called themselves Shatterday. They played a few shows around Melbourne and recorded a self titled 14 track cd. As the band played gigs to promote their cd, they began working on new songs with which they intended to refine the band's sound.
Their second release "Bite The Hand That Feeds You" (2006), showed that the songs had become shorter, with a more direct, faster and harder sound. Lyrically, the songs had become more political, brandishing varied social commentaries. With the new sound came a new band name, Dojo. Once again, the band played gigs around Melbourne, showcasing the band's new sound.
It didn't take long until more songs were written and a 3rd recording took place in late 2008. All of Dojo CD's were recorded at the Debasement studios and all were engineered by JT from Bugdust. This time it was a 6 track EP consisting of the best songs the band has written, so far. Titled "From The Inside", it contains more harder and faster songs but still with strong sense of melody. Not long after the recording, they recruited a second guitarist, Claff (Nimbus Wave), proving to be just what Dojo needed to finally complete the line-up, a talented guitarist and songwriter.
Throughout 2009, Dojo have played gigs around Melbourne promoting their latest cd. They've also begun to receive radio play on local station Syn Fm and will look to get more radio play in the future.
In 2010, Dojo will be looking to record another album, as they already have a fresh batch of exciting new songs, and will be continuing to build on their fan base. Dojo will be looking to play more gigs around Melbourne as well as regional areas and interstate.
