BAND CALENDAR
BIOGRAPHY
Russia is a 100% independent rock and based in Melbourne with
Matt on Vocals + guitar, Cas on Bass + vocals + Ash on drums.

Russia’s musical philosophy is simple, ROCK! Four on the floor, straight
up and down, rock’n’roll. A combination of well written songs, plenty of
attitude, crazy rock moves and super mini skirts + mascara (well one of
us...) equals a ridiculously good time.

The band formed in South Australia in 2006 after Matt was over being
a solo artist, he met Cas, whilst teaching at a music school and the
essence of Russia was formed. The band relocated to Melbourne in
2007 and has experienced a few line-up changes since forming, the
most recent with the addition of Ash on drums.

After releasing their first EP (Selling Alaska), the title track Selling Alaska reached number one on JJJ Unearthed and received moderate rotation on JJJ, community radio and TV placements (JTV).

2008 brought the arrival of Russia’s second EP (Down to Zero) which
took the band into more of an Indie soundscape. The song Down to
Zero was played on JJJ, Nova FM, and community radio. Russia also
filmed their debut music video for Down to Zero. The video achieved
numerous plays on Rage and the songs on the EP were used on the
JTV Hack segment.

Russia also went on tour to Queensland that year after being invited
to play at Greenfest – a three day festival with a focus on sustainable
living.

After demoing around forty new tracks, it was time for Russia to
record their debut album. 2009 brought big plans and high hopes.
After five different studios and three different producer/engineers plus
some crazy problems with the mastering; the debut album, From
Russia With Love, was released in Australia receiving moderate
rotation on VIC/NSW radio. To accompany the single From Russia
With Love, a music video was produced and aired on MTV and
Channel V.

More recently Russia have just released their brand spanking new
four track EP titled “Life in black and white”. The EP was released in
May onto itunes and a music video for the single “Centrelink”;
produced by Luke Morrison of Magnetic Moose films, is due to be
released in July.

This EP is Russia’s most rocking and honest record to date and is
enjoying radio play on RRR + community stations in Australia as well
as college radio in the US and Canada.

Russia has also scored a clothing endorsement from Queensland
based punk rock clothing label Beserk.

Russia have also been tearing up stages around Melbourne, with
highlight shows being Rock the Bay Festival at the Espy, Cherry Bar,
ACDC Lane and most recently the EP Launch at Revolver.

The high energy live shows have been described as “a rock revival”
with Russia becoming one of the “buzz bands”. Plans for touring are
underway and Russia are busy writing + demoing new songs for a
later release.

So stay tuned for more + seeya at the show!
