BIOGRAPHY
The Mansons were active from 2004-2009 (initially known as "The Charles Manson Experiment"), and during this time played many shows in Sydney and the inner west. Highlights include the 2005 Surry Hills Festival, supporting Rocket Science at the Annandale for the Ms Rock & Roll pageant, reaching the finals of the Jager Uprising, Sydney Uni Band Comp and Hopetoun Incentive, several packed-out and very sweaty shows at the Lansdowne Hotel and an acoustic show at the Mu Meson Archives playing the music of Charles Manson and The "Family" juxtaposed with projections of rare archival footage from the Manson Family's Spahn Ranch days and murder trials. Cult Sinema/Texas Chainsaw Trivia's Jay Katz once proclaimed them "one of the most important bands in Australia, maybe in the world" on his Naked City program on FBi Radio, and Dr Vern Pullen listed them next to The Vines in his Drum Media "highlights of 2005" retrospective.
Maintaining the grunge-rock spirit of their first record, The Mansons' sound evolved in the later days to incorporate elements of the electro world, adding drum machine and electronic drums to their arsenal. On Halloween 2009 they launched a 3 track single at the Factory Theatre at the Under The Blue Moon Festival's "All Hallows' Eve Ball" alongside Chaingang, Horrorwood Mannequins, Juke Baritone & The Swamp Dogs and Japanese baroque-industrial outfit GPKISM. The show was the band's second appearance at the annual UTBM festival, following 2008's band comp winners show at their local Sandringham Hotel where The Mansons performed alongside Brigitte Handley, Mz Ann Thropik and Belle Phoenix.
In 2010 the band decided to make a substantial change in direction, branching from their grunge roots with a song-writing collaboration with Ratcat's Simon Day. The partnership resulted in the country-flavored duet "This Day Forward", and a recording which featured Day's vocals was released on The Mansons' last release, the 3-track Halloween single "All Souls". The band decided to make the change in style official, opting for a classic Fender surf rock & roll sound inspired by 1960s Rock & Roll and Garage, and in 2010 they adopted The Glimmer as their moniker and recorded their debut album.
"The Mansons are proof - girls can rock just as hard as the boys, and it sounds even better when they rock it together!...
If you're into rock, you'll like this band. If you're into grunge, you'll like this band."
Music Feeds, June 2008.
"They take turns singing the dark, fuzzed up rockers with lyrics that are both gloomy and uplifting at the same time. Maybe it's because the songs have such strong melodies and the arrangements are full of the right sort of riffs that make me think these guys have got something special going on..."
Nic Dalton, Half A Cow Records, October 2008.
