BAND CALENDAR
BIOGRAPHY
Inspired by iconic rock recordings like Julie Ruin and Television as well as a long term obsession with listening to breakthrough music National Airlines started as a project of Dallas and Simon Rayner. Playing early shows with a drum machine and programmed bass the band emerged loud and brazen onto the Melbourne music scene. Meeting Gordo Hannah and Antanas Chesna along the way started to see some significant changes in style. A couple of years later it's a dynamically potent mix of light and shade - a downtempo underground rock experiment.

"I can't write love songs..." Lead singer and lyricist Dallas doesn't fit the mould of your standard heartache biographer. You won't find a song that takes you back to your last break-up or makes you pick up the phone and call your mum, but you will find lyrically well crafted social commentary that gives pop culture a spank now and then.

Back in October 2010 with the band still firmly in the grip of a new rave/wave style, their debut single 'Sweet Life' went out on iTunes. Sweet Life is being promoted on MTV Latin America's series 'Ninas Mal' (translation: Bad Girls!!). The shows producers loved the song and in keeping with their determination to promote new independent music are using it for the show's pre-season teasers as well as during the season.

The band has played around Melbourne venues solidly for the past 2 years, gaining fans, great reviews and polishing a strong set with their energised stage presence. They have headlined at Melbourne's best live venues such as Ding Dong Lounge, The Curtin Bandroom, The Empress and the hallowed stage of the Esplanade Hotel as well as playing with some of the best acts Melbourne has on offer.

National Airlines have been feature artists on triplejunearthed.com.au, mp3.com.au, fasterlouder.com.au, jbhifimusic.com.au and digg.com and have appeared in Tiger Airways in flight publication Tiger Tales, siting them as one of Melbourne's best live acts playing around right now.

New stuff is being recorded, new songs are being written.
